November 2025

Wooden letters spell THANKFUL, surrounded by fall-themed decorations on a wood surface.

From the Principal...

Dear Lyle Families,
As we step into November, I’m reminded of the power of gratitude — the simple act of pausing to notice and appreciate the good that surrounds us each day. Gratitude isn’t just about saying “thank you”; it’s about recognizing the people, moments, and efforts that make a difference in our lives and our school community.
This month, we have several opportunities to celebrate gratitude at Lyle. We’ll honor the service and sacrifice of our Veterans during our Veterans Day event, and we’ll express appreciation for the strong partnership between home and school during Parent-Teacher Conferences. Your support, involvement, and encouragement make such a difference in the success of our students — and for that, I’m truly thankful.
With gratitude and Dragon pride,
Mrs. Kavustuk
Principal, Lyle Elementary

🛡️ Erin’s Law Presentation at Lyle

Dear Lyle Families,
On Monday, November 17th, our students will participate in an Erin’s Law assembly focused on personal body safety and empowerment. Erin’s Law helps children understand body boundaries, recognize safe and unsafe situations, and identify trusted adults they can talk to if they ever feel uncomfortable.
Our lessons are designed to be age-appropriate and supportive, helping students build confidence and awareness in a safe, caring environment.
If you have questions, please reach out to our school social workers:
  • Sarah Aronson: saronson@isd109.org
  • Anna Kusper: akusper@isd109.org
If you’d like to opt your child out of the presentation, please complete this form:

💛 Working Toward Becoming a Distinguished Kindness School

At Lyle Elementary, kindness isn’t just something we talk about — it’s something we live every day. This year, we are excited to work toward earning recognition as a Distinguished Kindness School through the Great Kindness Challenge!
To celebrate and strengthen our culture of compassion, we’ll be holding a Kindness Spirit Week from November 10th to 14th in honor of World Kindness Day, officially celebrated on Thursday, November 13th.
Each day, students and staff are invited to join in fun, dress-up themes that spread kindness and positivity across Lyle:
🟦 Monday – “Kindness Starts with a Smile”
  • Dress in bright colors to spread sunshine and smiles wherever you go!
🟩 Tuesday – “Crazy for Kindness”
  • Wear fun or mismatched socks to show that kindness can be creative and unique!
🟨 Wednesday – “Kindness in Action”
  • Wear workout or athletic gear to show that kindness keeps us moving forward!
🟥 Thursday – “Sparkle with Kindness – World Kindness Day!”
  • Wear something that shines or sparkles to light up the day with positivity and joy.
🟪 Friday – “Grateful for Our Dragons”
  • Wear Lyle gear or Dragon pride colors as we celebrate our caring, kind community!
Every small act — a smile, a kind word, or a helping hand — makes a difference. Together, we’re showing that kindness is what makes Lyle shine! 💫
A colorful flyer promotes Kindness Week, with daily themes and activities.

🌟 Second Step – Emotion Management

This month, our students will begin learning about Emotion Management during their Second Step lessons. Through this unit, students will:
  • Name and identify emotions in themselves and others
  • Explore the same and different feelings among people
  • Learn the purpose of emotions and why we experience them
  • Practice strategies to manage emotions in healthy ways
We encourage you to continue these conversations at home — asking your child about their feelings, sharing your own, and practicing emotion management strategies together.
Together, we can help our Dragons grow emotionally aware and resilient!
